modern-home-bedroom-interior.jpg
The house designer and owner Duncan Jackson worked closely with architectsPiercy Conner to create a comfortable, contemporary lifestyle that maintains the aesthetic integrity of the tower defense historically recorded in Suffolk, England. The project solves a set of thorny issues, while creating a real homefrom grace wetland preserves a unique piece of history. The resultingresidence would appear to be at home on the planet Tatooine in Star Wars.

In the early 1800'sa series of defense towers around the coast rose in Englishto protect the British Empire. After much deliberation and work design an elegant solution is reached, it was a simple lightweight metal roof rises abovethe upper deck, while a circle of windows hidden under permit in the generous light, without disturbing much as the original building. The only entrance is through a small door at the bottom that leads to a department store once used for weapons and cannon balls.

Rooms are located on the first floor where the windows would not be practical or historical responsibility. A circular staircase leads though the domed ceiling of the living room on the top. Windows along the edge of the tower open to thedramatic field beyond. A generous handful of light tubes to bring daylight intothe center of the space, lighting the heavy stone that will be preserved for future generations.
