London-based architecture ROEWU came up with an ingenious solution for agreen family home in eastern Taiwan, which is a beautiful bamboo screen wrap. The screen is a more aesthetic version of the security steel bars are in mosthomes, and allows windows that open to provide natural ventilation. Bamboo Forest House makes good use of natural lighting and ventilation to the need for airconditioning is completely eliminated.

Located in a busy and long narrow parcel surrounded on three sides by homes with shared walls, the only clear opening to the street. To bring more natural light and fresh air to the three-story house, designed the project ROEWU as a series of volumes with gaps and voids. Sunlight shines and bounces off the walls in every room, while the floor plan includes several double-height spaces and triplevacuum allows air to move up and out of the house, eliminating the need for airconditioning, a large consumer of electricity in Taiwan.

The three-story house contains six bedrooms, a dining room, living room and kitchen on the ground floor and open air spaces in the upper floors. In the winter when the weather is cold, the family spends her time singing in the karaoke loungeand a spa bath on the second floor. In the summer, the family can enjoy the rooftop terrace with a sun shade system variable pattern surrounded by bamboo, whichinvites the cool breeze.
