The University of the Pacific Northwest has recently completed a village 132 students that was certified Platinum LEED for Homes and was awarded the2010 LEED for Homes Project of the Year Award for Best Multifamily by theUSGBC. The collected rainwater from the roofs of the butterfly, the energyefficient designbioswalesmedicinal gardens, and a unique design perfect forstudent interaction without doubt that this project be designed by aCollinsWoerman to study and learn.

Passive solar design, large overhangsand natural ventilation with operable windows all help to minimize power consumption. The measures are supplemented with underfloor heating, ultra high efficiency furnaces and gaswater heaters, high R-value insulation, and high efficiency lighting systems withcontrols in the light of day. Environmentally friendly, low VOC, locally sourced,FSC certified wood and recycled materials were used inside the building, while a low maintenance and durable cement board is placed on the outside andserves as a rain screen.
