Architectural Renderings House-Local, eco-efficient, modular and affordable housing for Ghana

Many home office concept we met at Inhabitat, but we were really impressed with the concept of eco-housing in Ghana. Designed by Blaanc Lisbon-based cooperation with the architect João Caeiro, Ghana is a plan emerged for an eco-family homes affordable for the middle class that emerged in Ghana.

Design recently won first place in the International Design Competition Open Source House, a nonprofit organization that aims to provide long-term housing better in low-income countries. Ghana is in the process of modular single-family homes built with local materials, local labor and all the best of sustainable design strategies, you can imagine, with a low cost of about $ 12.500 USD.

Open Source House competition invites architects to design affordable, flexible and durable the House of Representatives will be available for those who live in poor housing conditions. João Caeiro Blaanc and they responded quite well with the concept of thinking and practice for a house in Ashanti housing complex, a courtyard with buildings and structures in a large overhang which facilitates natural ventilation. Modular in nature, the house can grow as funds permit and when the family grows.

All building materials locally sourced – has hit the earth walls, timber Dahomey, and bamboo can be found nearby to build a house. Meanwhile, local residents will learn to build homes, giving them a set of new skills and stimulate the economy.

Energy efficiency is a fundamental objective of the design to improve overall survival as houses, but mainly to create a more comfortable environment with minimal cost. low-energy solutions which will be capitalized technology to minimize energy and maximize comfort. Passive solar design with south-oriented structures and large overhangs provide shade to the interior. A solar hot water tank on the roof of a large supply of hot water for kitchens and bathrooms. The orientation of the house to increase natural ventilation, while rain water is collected for use in homes and gardens in the courtyard, which helps provide food for the family. A septic tank handles small-scale household waste, while the organic waste composting in the backyard. This concept will be built in the program in 2010.
