Architectural Renderings House-Magnificent Wind Powered Tower in Piraeus

The Piraeus Tower in Piraeus was a giant project that hasn’t been completed since the first construction that begin 30 years ago. because of that, they called it a “Sleeping Giant”. In order to finish the project, they held a architects competition to give the tower new modern shape to made the tower become the landmark of the city.

And “The Windscraper Tower” is the winner of the competition. Its designed by HWKN Architects that based in New York. The design use they called multi purpose wind generating “leaves” on the facade of the building.

The HWKN design has ability to make The Piraeus Tower into a wind energy generating machine by place wind harvesting device which patch on the outside of the building structure. The renewable wind energy has three main purposed.


First, the rod and wind catchers that have shape like leaves captured the wind and turn it into usable energy to supply the building. this features was made by Seabased Inc, the company that responsible for research in Swedish wave energy park where the movement of waves is translated into usable electrical energy.

Second, the artificial leaves can also used as canopy, in order to sway and generate calming sounds wind in the building breeze like a sound of the leaves that blows by the air. The people inside the building can alo hear the sound, that makes them feel like they are in forest or natural environment.

Lastly, the artificial leaves used as windows screen protector, that protect the building interior from direct sun shine and also use as natural ventilation in order to cooled the temperature inside the building naturaly. The additional stair also build on the exterior of the building, in order to used by people to walk through the artificial leaves.
