Biggin Hill in the background:

Biggin Hill is a historic UK airport, near Bromley, south-east of central London, which was inaugurated by the British Royal Flying Corps in World War when it served to protect the capital against attacks Zeppelin and Gotha bombers. In World War II, the airfield played a bigger role in British history as the basis for the control of the Battle of Britain, when it was home to Spitfires and Hurricanes in many different squadrons. The airfield was no longer an operational RAF station in 1958, when the original in London's Croydon Airport closed, Biggin Hill began its life cycle as a civilian airport (with the participation of some remaining military until 1992) . Since it is not acceptable that operators use it for regular charter flights or holiday, the airport became a privileged place for private and business market. The venue for the Formula 1 racing are also based in Biggin Hill and new neighbors Rizon Jet facility, while the airport regularly on movie sets, including "The Da Vinci Code '.

The summary:

The two new classrooms and Rizon Jet FBO, VIP terminals in the UK and Doha started with a concept similar scheme, but SHH was commissioned in August 2010 and then to interpret and develop this concept to create a more European feel to the Biggin Hill room, yet retains many references Arabs in the choice of materials and functionality, to reflect the heritage of Qatar to the company, linked sites and passenger profile similar to the two terminals. The starting point for our design concept was Rizon Jet brand and 'star' brand, which was interpreted and applied in a variety of ways and at different scales throughout the interior.

The writing that the SSH client was the creation of a "six-star reception" with a comfortable lounge.

It's about creating a space that people want to spend time in, this was achieved through a simple color palette and quiet, luxurious finishes, a large proportion of wood paneling and a strong emphasis on comfort. The main room is a spectacular double height volume, which is divided into rooms interesting, divided into zones with different treatments and a variety of levels of privacy, so that customers can immediately find the right space for your state of need maintaining views sight of everything else happening in the installation.

Design Walk-through:

Rizon Jet passengers first arrive in the room at the west end of the hangar to be met by doormen in top hats and tails and a valet parking service. The entrance is directly in the impressive double-height space, with plans instantly visible. If customers want a fast track to the exit, a 'fast track' path is clearly marked by a marble floor panel "Emperador Light ', which leads to the exit door, where the normal services of British customs, security and passport apply. Large scale lighting in the form of handmade glass pendant lights specially designed for the system in the Czech Republic, also the lines of the road, in a sculpture of walnut veneer, depth of 300 mm ceiling raft, set in a pattern of depth on the basis of identity Rizon Jet, which continues beyond the security fence and to the tape of the track, giving customers a sense of depth space.

Passengers with more time on hand, however, will benefit from all salon services offered. On the ground floor lounge space immediately communicates an atmosphere of richness and structural drama, first through a wall of half-height living with established foliage color patterns on the right of the entrance area ( created by ANS Group), established in self-water automatically to ensure a uniform appearance and easy maintenance and framed by a cold cathode boundary.

In front of the wall of life before the greeter desk is in a wood pattern finned walnut sculpture (designed by SHH and made by William Dulcie Ltd), which is repeated for the full height feature the wall directly in front between the landside and land, which seems to alter how the approach of passengers. Here, Rizon Jet concierge greets passengers and seeks to establish relations with frequent travelers with advance information on food encourages customers favorite TV programs and so on. The luggage was taken immediately to avoid overloading the room, and returned only when passengers wish to begin the boarding process. The lounge is also almost entirely unmarked to ensure an atmosphere of luxury, passenger and direction of the explanation and clarification of all the services part, however, the role of facilitator. The material quality is also advertised through the marble floors in 'Bottocini Fiorito Light' on each side of the path of the center court of the 'Emperor Light' (which is also used in a darker version of the baths the right of the center of the floor area).

The lighting scheme for the project, created by SHH with Deltalight has to do with control. We combined the cold cathode lighting in the ceiling rafts direct lighting, along with individual plant and table lamps, so that there is a total built-in flexibility and the possibility of a very soft, intimate lighting in the afternoon.

At left, an important feature also takes the form of a series of stunning, full-height columns in a metal finish drilling in trouble (with greater application of the ground star Rizon Jet's corporate identity and produced for the scheme seamless industries), create a circle most of the first of the four rooms downstairs zoning. Within columns, ultra-comfortable seating in the lounge of a takes the form of a single circular sofa with cloth seats and a pale brown fabric back dark brown with gold circles on a macassar ebony, designed by Emlyn Conlon of SHH and manufactured by Lyndon Design. As of woolen and silk carpets, the incorporation of the star brand (also designed by Emlyn Conlon of SHH and manufactured by Tai Ping) is in the center of the room, while the inner circle formed by the columns is completed with the addition two-Bolier chairs in Macassar ebony frame upholstered with cotton fabric in black.

The second semi-circular open room is located just outside - the largest at this level - defined by the contrary by a tape edge soils, especially created for the project to a design by SHH unique surfaces, using inkjet technology water. The two living roof also has its own treatment, ceiling lighting design with rectangular depressions cut into the ceiling. Furniture here uses a national vernacular, with the ground in a silk and wool carpet hand (again a custom design by SHH Emlyn Conlon, manufactured by Tai Ping) and a mix of lounge and a sofa Boli, interspersed with small side tables with a black chrome base and the top dark brown lacquer (Meridiani), along with twisted glass lamps and table lamps Porta Romana foot Natuzzi. TV screens are discreetly incorporated into walnut bespoke and distressed mirror units (designed by SHH and created by William Dulcie), with screens mirror to make sure it fits easily into the design when not in use.

All M & E and audio-visual elements have been carefully built without visible operation, in order not to disturb the clean lines and a sleek space. No more speakers or grids of view and we made full use of architectural details to ensure that these works are kept in view. In each classroom, for example, carpentry elements of measurement, such as consoles or coffee tables Crestron touch panels and contain hidden wiring to control lighting and AV.

Beyond the first two rooms, two elegant display cabinets measure (designed by SHH Emlyn Conlon and carried out by the interior woodwork) have ultra-high range of goods for sale, including watches and jewelry.

On the right, the third and fourth rooms downstairs again circular in shape, identical in appearance, although distinguished from other sunken sidewalks rooms two steps down (again as designed by SHH and made by Lyndon design, with dark gray leather seat and back in dark brown cloth with gold circles).

Beyond three four rooms, bathroom and laundry area is discreetly announced by a surrounding wall with silk wall coverings. Design features include here as units of the console and a mirror in every area in black lacquer, scalloped Ecco Commerce.

The mezzanine offers passengers greater levels of privacy, but with the same design through ideas to stay connected spaces.

Had the Arabs customer demographics in particular in mind on this floor, where the cultural demands of privacy is greater than in Europe. Here, customers can be served food and drinks a little more discreet or can be expected in any of the three additional classrooms, which also cater for children - or you can use the business center and prayer room. The entire floor can also be booked for any group of individual users in advance.

    Senior Designer Emlyn SHH Conlon

Fifth and sixth rooms directly onto the soil surface remains semi-visible through a sloping wall, laminated glass fabric (with a wavy white color and texture of fabric), created by Sekon glass factory, with the star corporate identity Rizon Jet sandblasted on the glass scale. SHH were careful to vary both the size of the logo graphic references to each use and application to vary the material to ensure that both the variety and scale. Seats in five and six rooms sofas sofa features Chair Company in dark brown leather with a gold cloth seat and wingback chairs from Bolier. The sides are tables and lamps are Fibule Porta Romana.

On each side of this area that stands out, the glass walls above the ground floor have wooden panels covered with lace, cream lacquer finish, referring to the star brand. The whole area is covered with fabric lining on the wall subtle shades of white color and is designed for customers not only for privacy, the more, but they want to use the facilities for longer periods of time or with children to attend. Fifth and sixth rooms so hidden Wii and Playstation consoles, while seven living room has a central coffee table with crayons, coloring books, reading books and board games. A blackboard and chalk are also available.

We were instructed not to create designated areas for children, but instead to build this feature in the three rooms in a hidden mezzanine, so the sense of sophistication remains in force, either for family use or unfamiliar .

    Conlon Emlyn

Units of measurement in all rooms are inlaid with ebony veneer macassar leather, contain and conceal Crestron AV and lighting control panels, designed by SHH and manufactured by the interior woodwork.

The business area includes a full conference room for up to twelve people with video conferencing facilities about tea. The conference table is in walnut (Mobil Plan) and the presidents of conferences - the chair of "Aston" - are, Arper. A sandblasted glass sliding wall delineates a separate space, while the front of the business combination ieatures a curved glass wall (again using the design of large-scale star), with gray voiles discreetly, giving a sense of privacy for the two spaces, which can be booked separately or together.

Toilets and bathrooms on this floor are marble, while the prayer hall, which has been completely blessed and facing Mecca, has been designed with a low level sockets walnut finish and dragged Armourcoat wall. In front of the prayer hall, a depth of wall panels gives the room with natural light that enters the bottom and mirror panels on top, concealing storage.
