Architectural Renderings House-Gorgeous New Mint Green Museum

The old US Mint in San Francisco had been unused since 1995, now this old building become cultural hub for San Francisco with a wonderful green renovation by HOK.

As for now Mint will serve as a major cultural center for San Francisco with mixed uses including a SF Bay Area history museum, an interactive learning center, a visitor information center, restaurants, retail, and a green roof garden.

The San Fransisco historical building that once had been survive from 1906 great earth quake, originally build in 1874.

This building also was the second branch from the united states Mint. This building can survive from the earth quake thanks to the “floating foundation” which designed by Alfred Mullet.

The renovations progress are designed to work with the original existing building.

For example, the passive ventilation is not closed down, the new glass roof over the courtyard does not seal off the courtyard, but rather serves to supplement the passive ventilation systems without completely closing in the building. It also serves to provide additional rainwater catchment area.

The renovation was also preserve the original building because the idea is not to harm or damage the historical character this building from such long ago.

In order to do that the worker not just replace the old one with new stuff. The building also takes advantage of natural daylight and the structures high thermal mass.
