AOL launched a company-wide culture change initiative to adapt the network - the company has been in the construction of the first role. As part of this effort, AOL moved its headquarters to a new business space, the West Bank and the Palo Alto studio Ø + A to bring cool, so the design to the office.
Space is still a distinct corporate aesthetics 1980: smallpox in all offices, rooms, and the definition of employment, dark finishes and slash employees looming high resolution. O + A blank canvas space to resume, the blank - exposed ceilings, walls stripped to reveal the structure, usually the equivalent of creating a space transparency, AOL is taking all aspects of your business.
This approach is the key to "honest materials" concept - the materials and workmanship in the construction industry's embrace and the origin of more and more the foundation of modern design work is completed. In AOL, for example, oriented strand board (OSB), commonly used in the independent space, the construction contractor, was polished, fit and finish, as in the complex modern twist. Exposed ceilings, concrete floors, a wide range of sight, modern furniture, all contribute to industrial look. The result is a space to do what and how to build communication.
Transparency in line with this, O + A House plan emphasizes cooperation in space - in isolation to private offices and open workstations shared collegial environment. Two design features highlight this concept AOL. The first is placed along the main work area round pod series, conference rooms improvisation. Translucent glass fiber in the OSB, based on these bins provide an informal collaboration and spontaneous creativity welcome space. To encourage spontaneity, pods open to all employees, not reservation.
A more prominent feature is the large, bright room for cooperation with City Hall is known as AOL. Part of the kitchen, part of the play space, kick back some areas, but also as a whole in the hands of city hall public areas (Aliyafen Dayton speeches when AOL acquired the Huffington Post) function to simulate the Mission District in San Francisco night after the restaurant. Kitchen bench seat, plenty of light, color and clean with good games and leisure areas to bursts of white palette. Together the various departments in the city center, or may not interact with staff, City Hall is designed to promote cross-pollination of creative high-tech companies, such as America Online is the famous kind.
Then there are graphics. AOL's new logo - a simple white font on a company's initials - can effectively be placed on any color background. Fund for Recreation different sites, including abstract patterns and the nature of popular culture and draw the image. In the space of the wall are all custom designed.
The design combines AOL's new elements - transparency, collaboration, innovation and joy - the company's employees to create a stimulating environment.
